Edward Rilke was born in 1972 in France. On completing university, Rilke moved to Australia to discover his paternal roots and in particular to follow one of his passions, scuba diving. His particular love of photography grew after moving to Sydney in 1994, where he began to experiment using the new forms of technology.
Rilke’s images begin from reality but are so manipulated that a new image is created which is then left to the viewer to interpret. The strong colours that pervade his works, in part look back to his youth in the 1980’s and his memories of life in the South of France. Rilke puts an undisputable intrinsic beauty before the viewer.
His most recent collective exhibitions have been in Australia, Italy, UK and France.
